Not that any arm twisting was needed, mind you - any opportunity to feature the master of the heavy metal riff, either on his own or with Black Sabbath, the band he co-founded, is grabbed at with both hands! Tony Iommi is, in fact, the subject of this week's Dino Quiz (number 197), and an imported copy of this very album is the giveaway prize. You may or may not recall that the "Seventh Star" album, released in 1986, was sometimes referred to as a Tony Iommi solo album, although the Black Sabbath name was included in the title. This time 'round, however, Iommi has indeed r eleased a true solo album, the only other Sabbath members helping out being Ozzy and drummer Bill Ward on one of the tracks. Each one of the ten tracks on this interesting album features a different vocalist, most of whom are s tars in their own right: There's Henry Rollins, Skin from Skunk Anansie, Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, Phil Anselmo from Pantera, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Ian Astbury from The Cult, Peter Steele from Type O Negative and Billy Corgan, from The Smashing Pumpkins, on bass and vocals on our featured track. Even Billy Idol gets to do his bit. Bassists Terry Phillips, Bob Marlette, Laurence Cottle and Ben Sheperd are featured, as are drummers Matt Cameron (who's also on Rush's Geddy Lee's solo album), Kenny Aaronoff, Jim C opley and John Tempesta. A serious pool of talent, for sure, but the u nderlying feature is the familiar stunning axe work from Iommi, surely one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
Question: Tony Iommi is the guitarist for which famous band?
Answer: Black Sabbath
