2009 Started very slow. That is
very normal for this time of the
year, because the record companies
are aware of the fact that people
don't have money after Christmas.
But there are a few exciting
releases so far this year and the
next couple of weeks, I will publish
a review of each of the following
albums:
Ian Gillan : One Eye to
Marocco
This album is very pleasing on
the ear and especially the title
track is brilliant. Only problem is
the fact that there are too many
styles on this album. Perhaps Mr
Gillan should stick to one style and
accept the fact that he is going to
live long enough to release other
albums. (7/10)
M Ward : Hold Time
M Ward is arguably one of the
best singer songwriters around.
After his brilliant album of 2006 -
Post-War - I did not expect him to
improve or even to par that album.
He did. And he does one of the most
innovative covers of Buddy Holly's
Rave on that you can expect to hear.
With influences from The Beach Boys
and Rodriquez the rest of the
album is brilliant. (9/10)
Place Vendome - Streets of
Fire
My favourite metal and hard rock
singer is definitely Michael Kiske.
His solo album RTS is one of my best
albums of all-time. And his albums
with Helloween were brilliant. And
then Mr. Kiske decided that metal is
from the devil. His albums with
Supared were terrible. And now he is
united with Pink Cream 69. What do I
think of this AOR outing. I honestly
don't know. Before I grade it, I
will have to listen to it a couple
of more times.
WAtch out for more releases by
Saxon, Hammerfall, Places of Power,
Derek Trucks Band and Joe Bonamassa.

can relive all the great classic
rock moments in history. Go to this

Do you remember the brilliant song
by the band Sweathog in the early
seventies. We happened to be in
contact with the bass player and
singer Dave Johnson. What an honour
and thanks to him we have more
information about this band and
their 2 albums they produced.

Their song Halleluja is possibly the
best oldie I have heard in many
years. It is available on the
remastered cd's.
There are so many brilliant bands
from the late sixties and early
seventies that were forgotten. In
this section we are going to look at
some of them and do a review of
their albums. The first of these
bands is : Frijid Pink.
They are best known for their cover
of the "House of the Rising Sun",
believe me there are a lot more to
them than just this one song.
Detroit hard rockers Frijid Pink
formed in 1967, originally comprised
of singer Kelly Green, guitarist
Gary Ray Thompson, bassist Tom
Harris, keyboardist Larry Zelanka
and drummer Richard Stevers. After
two years of relentless touring
throughout the southeast Michigan
area, the group — substituting
Harris for new bassist Thomas
Beaudry — signed with the Parrot
label in 1969; although their first
two singles, "Tell Me Why" and "Drivin'
Blues," failed to attract much
attention, their third effort for
the company — a distorted,
guitar-heavy interpretation of "The
House of the Rising Sun" — reached
the Top Ten on the U.S. pop charts,
becoming an even bigger hit
overseas. Frijid Pink's self-titled
debut LP followed in 1970, as did
the follow-up Defrosted; subsequent
singles including "Sing a Song for
Freedom" and "Heartbreak Hotel,"
however, failed to match earlier
successes, and after 1972's Earth
Omen the group did not re-enter the
studio until recording 1975's All
Pink Inside, disbanding soon after.

Zeppelin and the Blues hard rock
sound with a touch of psychedelic
this is for you. With The
Answer and bands like Black Crowes
who created new interest in this
sound, it is always good to go back
to the roots of the sound. And
Frijid Pink is for me a better
example than Blue Cheer. They had 3
very good albums :
The last album was not that good.
